In Riga and its surroundings, December is a special time when the city is lit up with Christmas lights and the calendar of events is filled with concerts and charity initiatives suitable for both families with children and music and art lovers. Here are some of the most important events that you can go to and enjoy the festive feeling.
Charity events
Christmas light trail: The magical light installation is open to everyone and creates a special Christmas mood until February in Riga’s parks and canalside greenery. Along with the light trail, there are also charity initiatives, such as collecting gifts for needy children and families.
Christmas events of the Lutheran Church: on December 25 and 26, concerts, markets and quiet areas for thanksgiving and expressing good thoughts will be held on the church grounds. On these days, donations are collected for local charities.

Advent concert cycle “Colors of the Seasons”: The final concert “I will ask for a white angel” will take place on December 22 at 19.00, Riga St. in the Church of Mary Magdalene. Various vocal ensembles and pianist Māris Treijs will take part. at 8:30 p.m., the concert “Es paliku” led by the youth choir “Voices” will be played there.

The group “Instrumenti” offers a series of festive concerts on December 27 in the Riga Circus with a musical performance full of moods.

Pulling the winter solstice block: on December 21, the traditional block pulling will take place in the Town Hall Square, which symbolically removes the old and gives way to the new year. This event especially attracts people of different generations.
