Going back to the Middle Ages and almost hearing the squinting of spears, it is Koknese that can boast of one of the most beautiful castle ruins of all times in Latvia. The Archbishop of Riga started the construction of the stone castle in 1209, in a short time a giant castle with a suburb and the fortified city of Koknese next to it was built here. The ruins of the castle that remain today are located in a wonderful place between the Daugava river and the Perse river. For a small fee, you can go to see the ruins of the castle itself from the inside, the winding walls tell the story of the castle, and the cannons remind you of the battles of the past. Descending to the edge of the Pērse river, it is possible to go on a boat trip along the Daugava river and the Pērse river. The captain of the boat also has his own story to tell his fellow travelers. Be sure to walk through Koknese Park, see the rendering of Perse Falls, and visit Garden of Destiny. We believe that if you’ve ever been to Koknese, you’ll definitely come back there.

Perhaps it will be you who will manage to see the legendary catfish. If so, tell us too.
